In 2005 around 2,603 suicides occurred in Romania, 45 less than in 2004. In 2005, on average 7 Romanians committed suicide every day.

Romania reported 12.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 2,603 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 2,133 were men suicides and 470 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 20.6 per 100,000 men and for women 4.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 433 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 6 suicides.
