In Portugal there were 9.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 1,020 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 751 were men suicides and 269 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 14.8 per 100,000 men and for women 4.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Portugal suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 185 homicides in Portugal, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.5 suicides.
