Peru has a low suicide rate

In 2016 around 418 suicides occurred in Peru, 154 more than in 2015. In Peru, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.

Peru reported 1.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.41 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Peru has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 418 recorded suicide cases in 2016, 288 were men suicides and 130 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 1.9 per 100,000 men and for women 0.8 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Peru. However, in Peru in 2016 there were there were 2,435 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 5.8 homicides per suicide.
