Number of suicides increases in Nicaragua

In 2005 around 814 suicides occurred in Nicaragua, 46 more than in 2004. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Nicaragua reported 14.84 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 814 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 634 were men suicides and 180 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 23.57 per 100,000 men and for women 6.52 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Nicaragua suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 729 homicides in Nicaragua, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
