Suicides increase in Maldives

In 2005 occurred 35 suicides in Maldives. This year, 8 more people committed suicide than in 2004.

Maldives had 11.94 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.34 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 35 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 21 were men suicides and 14 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.27 per 100,000 men and for women 9.47 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Maldives suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 4 homicides in Maldives, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 8.8 suicides.
