Number of suicides falls in Liberia

In 2007 occurred 215 suicides in Liberia. This year, 2 fewer people committed suicide than in 2006.

Liberia had 6.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 215 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 172 were men suicides and 43 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 9.58 per 100,000 men and for women 2.32 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Liberia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 100 homicides in Liberia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.2 suicides.
