Suicides increase in Iraq

In 2005 occurred 655 suicides in Iraq. This year, 6 more people committed suicide than in 2004. In Iraq, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Iraq had 2.39 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Iraq has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 655 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 369 were men suicides and 286 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 2.58 per 100,000 men and for women 1.98 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Iraq. However, in Iraq in 2005 there were there were 1,267 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 1.9 homicides per suicide.
