Guyana has a very high suicide rate

By 2007, suicides in Guyana increased by 15 people to at 191 suicides

In Guyana there were 25.56 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Guyana has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 191 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 140 were men suicides and 51 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 37.15 per 100,000 men and for women 13.35 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Guyana suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 115 homicides in Guyana, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.7 suicides.
