Suicides increase in Greece

In 2018 occurred 567 suicides in Greece. This year, 44 more people committed suicide than in 2017. In Greece, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Greece had 5.13 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 567 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 446 were men suicides and 121 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.27 per 100,000 men and for women 2.17 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Greece suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 99 homicides in Greece, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.7 suicides.
