In 2005 occurred 1,991 suicides in Egypt. This year, 35 fewer people committed suicide than in 2004. In 2005, on average 5 Egyptians committed suicide every day.

Egypt had 2.82 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Egypt, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 1,991 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 1,317 were men suicides and 674 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.29 per 100,000 men and for women 1.73 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Egypt suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 522 homicides in Egypt, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.8 suicides.
