In 2018 around 43 suicides occurred in Cyprus, 5 more than in 2017.
Cyprus reported 4.71 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.42 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 43 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 35 were men suicides and 8 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.01 per 100,000 men and for women 1.57 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cyprus suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 15 homicides in Cyprus, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.9 suicides.
