Suicides increase in Cyprus

In 2005 occurred 17 suicides in Cyprus. This year, 10 more people committed suicide than in 2004.

Cyprus had 2.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Cyprus has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 17 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 12 were men suicides and 5 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.3 per 100,000 men and for women 1.3 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Cyprus. However, in Cyprus in 2005 there were there were 20 homicides, then, homicides are more common than suicides. There were 1.2 homicides per suicide.
