In Chile there were 11.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 1,848 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 1,496 were men suicides and 352 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.4 per 100,000 men and for women 4.2 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 616 homicides in Chile, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3 suicides.
