In 2005 around 1,726 suicides occurred in Myanmar, 4 more than in 2004. In 2005, on average 5 Burmese committed suicide every day.
Myanmar reported 3.63 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.
Of the 1,726 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 991 were men suicides and 735 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 4.16 per 100,000 men and for women 3.08 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Myanmar suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 676 homicides in Myanmar, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.6 suicides.
