In 2005 around 9,672 suicides occurred in Bangladesh, 134 more than in 2004. In 2005, on average 26 Bangladeshis committed suicide every day.

Bangladesh reported 6.96 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 9,672 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 6,356 were women and 3,316 were men. More women than men die by suicide each year, and is among the few countries where the female rate is higher than the male rate.9.14 women per 100.000 female cause their own deaths and 4.65 men per 100.000 male..

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Bangladesh suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 3,592 homicides in Bangladesh, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.7 suicides.
