Afghanistan - Intentional self-harm

In 2004 occurred 1,248 suicides in Afghanistan. This year, 82 more people committed suicide than in 2003. In 2004, on average 3 Afghans committed suicide every day.

Afghanistan had 6.17 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.53 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 1,248 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 1,033 were men suicides and 214 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.71 per 100,000 men and for women 1.83 per 100,000 female.
