In July, vehicle registrations in United States fell by 4.76% with respect to July of 1990. In total, 1,185,200 cars were registered and 12,962,400 new cars were sold in the last twelve months, 10.73% less than the year before.
The breakdown of car sales figures for the month of July is:
- Commercial vehicles sold: 412,000, 6.62% less than in July of 1990.
- Passenger cars regitrations: 773,200, which represents a figure of 3.74% less than in July of 1990.

As can be seen, the number of registrations per thousand residents has fallen in the last year. A drop in registrations generally indicates a fall in consumer confidence and, when it is sustained, a recession in the real economy.
