In 2002 around 31,595 suicides occurred in United States, 1,046 more than in 2001. In 2002, on average 87 Americans committed suicide every day.

United States reported 11 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.78 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 31,595 recorded suicide cases in 2002, 25,363 were men suicides and 6,232 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.9 per 100,000 men and for women 4.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In United States suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 16,229 homicides in United States, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 1.9 suicides.
