Number of suicides falls in Turkmenistan

In 2007 occurred 546 suicides in Turkmenistan. This year, 22 fewer people committed suicide than in 2006. In Turkmenistan, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Turkmenistan had 10.87 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 546 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 433 were men suicides and 113 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.49 per 100,000 men and for women 4.42 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Turkmenistan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 203 homicides in Turkmenistan, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.7 suicides.
