Number of suicides falls in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2007 occurred 135 suicides in Trinidad and Tobago. This year, 18 fewer people committed suicide than in 2006.

Trinidad and Tobago had 10.33 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 135 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 110 were men suicides and 25 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.14 per 100,000 men and for women 3.53 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Trinidad and Tobago. However, in Trinidad and Tobago in 2007 there were there were 391 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.9 homicides per suicide.
