Suicides decreased in Sierra Leone

In 2007 around 769 suicides occurred in Sierra Leone, 21 less than in 2006. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Sierra Leone reported 12.84 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 769 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 529 were men suicides and 240 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.85 per 100,000 men and for women 8.07 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Sierra Leone suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 134 homicides in Sierra Leone, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.7 suicides.
