In 2005 around 2,369 suicides occurred in Kenya, 60 more than in 2004. In 2005, on average 6 Kenyans committed suicide every day.

Kenya reported 7.01 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.34 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 2,369 recorded suicide cases in 2005, 1,885 were men suicides and 483 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.59 per 100,000 men and for women 2.68 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Kenya suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 1,084 homicides in Kenya, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.2 suicides.
