Suicides increase in Uruguay

In 2007 occurred 588 suicides in Uruguay. This year, 68 more people committed suicide than in 2006. In Uruguay, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Uruguay had 17.51 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10 suicides per 100,000 people.

Uruguay is a country with a high rate of suicide.

Of the 588 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 450 were men suicides and 138 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 28.05 per 100,000 men and for women 8.01 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Uruguay suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 194 homicides in Uruguay, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3 suicides.
