Suicides decreased in Belize

In 2007 around 15 suicides occurred in Belize, 1 less than in 2006.

Belize reported 4.9 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 15 recorded suicide cases in 2007, 12 were men suicides and 3 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 8.1 per 100,000 men and for women 1.74 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Belize. However, in Belize in 2007 there were there were 97 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 6.5 homicides per suicide.
