Suicides increase in Saint Lucia

In 2001 occurred 14 suicides in Saint Lucia. This year, 3 more people committed suicide than in 2000.

Saint Lucia had 8.89 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 14 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 11 were men suicides and 3 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 13.75 per 100,000 men and for women 3.86 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Saint Lucia. However, in Saint Lucia in 2001 there were there were 34 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2.4 homicides per suicide.
