Suicides grow in Ireland

By 2001, suicides in Ireland increased by 25 people to at 488 suicides In Ireland, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

In Ireland there were 12.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 488 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 409 were men suicides and 79 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.3 per 100,000 men and for women 4.1 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Ireland suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 52 homicides in Ireland, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 9.4 suicides.
