Portugal - Intentional self-harm

In 2001 occurred 761 suicides in Portugal. This year, 236 more people committed suicide than in 2000. On average, there are 2 suicides per day.

Portugal had 7.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 761 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 586 were men suicides and 175 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 11.7 per 100,000 men and for women 3.3 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Portugal suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 105 homicides in Portugal, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 7.2 suicides.
