In 2001 around 1,748 suicides occurred in Cameroon, 91 more than in 2000. In 2001, on average 5 Cameroonians committed suicide every day.

Cameroon reported 10.97 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,748 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 1,336 were men suicides and 412 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.38 per 100,000 men and for women 5.28 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Cameroon suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 755 homicides in Cameroon, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.3 suicides.
