Suicides decreased in Trinidad and Tobago

In 2001 around 172 suicides occurred in Trinidad and Tobago, 4 less than in 2000.

Trinidad and Tobago reported 13.56 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 172 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 140 were men suicides and 33 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.09 per 100,000 men and for women 4.84 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Trinidad and Tobago suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 151 homicides in Trinidad and Tobago, there are more suicides than homicides. For every homicide there were 1.1 suicides.
