In 2001 around 2,720 suicides occurred in Romania, 116 less than in 2000. In 2001, on average 7 Romanians committed suicide every day.
Romania reported 12.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.
Of the 2,720 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 2,278 were men suicides and 442 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 21.1 per 100,000 men and for women 3.9 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Romania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 699 homicides in Romania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.9 suicides.
