Lithuania has the highest suicide rate in the world

In 2001 occurred 1,535 suicides in Lithuania. This year, 96 fewer people committed suicide than in 2000. In 2001, on average 4 Lithuanians committed suicide every day.

Lithuania had 44.2 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 10.88 suicides per 100,000 people.

Lithuania has the highest suicide rate in the world.

Of the 1,535 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 1,257 were men suicides and 278 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 77.5 per 100,000 men and for women 15 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 353 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 4.3 suicides.
