In 2018 around 684 suicides occurred in Lithuania, 69 less than in 2017. In Lithuania, on average, at least one suicide happens every year.
Lithuania reported 24.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.4 suicides per 100,000 people.
Lithuania has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 684 recorded suicide cases in 2018, 543 were men suicides and 141 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 41.9 per 100,000 men and for women 9.3 per 100,000 female.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Lithuania suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 129 homicides in Lithuania, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 5.3 suicides.
