Iraq - Intentional self-harm

In 2001 occurred 639 suicides in Iraq. This year, 11 fewer people committed suicide than in 2000. In Iraq, on average, at least one suicide happens every day.

Iraq had 2.51 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 639 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 384 were men suicides and 256 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.03 per 100,000 men and for women 2 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Iraq. However, in Iraq in 2001 there were there were 1,267 homicides, and therefore, number of deaths by murder is far greater than people to take their own lives. There were 2 homicides per suicide.
