By 2004, suicides in Chile increased by 81 people to at 1,735 suicides In 2004, on average 5 Chileans committed suicide every day.

In Chile there were 10.8 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 10.53 suicides per 100,000 people.

Of the 1,735 recorded suicide cases in 2004, 1,472 were men suicides and 263 were women. Men have a very high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 18.7 per 100,000 men and for women 3.2 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Chile suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 513 homicides in Chile, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 3.4 suicides.
