There are 21 suicides per day in Brazil

In 2001 around 7,737 suicides occurred in Brazil, 958 more than in 2000. In 2001, on average 21 Brazilians committed suicide every day.

Brazil reported 4.4 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 10.88 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 7,737 recorded suicide cases in 2001, 6,177 were men suicides and 1,560 were women. Men have a high rate of death by suicide compared with women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 7.1 per 100,000 men and for women 1.7 per 100,000 female.

Suicide is a very important cause of death in the world and also in Brazil. However, in Brazil in 2001 there were there were 47,955 homicides, many more than suicides. There were 6.2 homicides per suicide.
