Suicides increase in Liberia

In 2013 occurred 283 suicides in Liberia. This year, 5 more people committed suicide than in 2012.

Liberia had 6.67 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, less than the average suicide in the world, of 9.78 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Of the 283 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 221 were men suicides and 62 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 10.08 per 100,000 men and for women 2.78 per 100,000 female.

Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Liberia suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 135 homicides in Liberia, suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 2.1 suicides.
