In 1974 occurred 1,783 suicides in Austria. This year, 132 more people committed suicide than in 1973. In 1974, on average 5 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,783 recorded suicide cases in 1974, 1,204 were men suicides and 579 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 33.5 per 100,000 men and for women 14.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
