In 1971 around 1,694 suicides occurred in Austria, 95 less than in 1970. In 1971, on average 5 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,694 recorded suicide cases in 1971, 1,111 were men suicides and 583 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 31.4 per 100,000 men and for women 14.7 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
