Austria has a very high suicide rate

In 1970 occurred 1,789 suicides in Austria. This year, 144 more people committed suicide than in 1969. In 1970, on average 5 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria had 24 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 11.8 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,789 recorded suicide cases in 1970, 1,232 were men suicides and 557 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 35 per 100,000 men and for women 14.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
