In 1969 around 1,645 suicides occurred in Austria, 33 more than in 1968. In 1969, on average 5 Austrians committed suicide every day.

Austria reported 22.1 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 11.58 suicides per 100,000 people.

Austria has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,645 recorded suicide cases in 1969, 1,081 were men suicides and 564 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 30.9 per 100,000 men and for women 14.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
