In Japan there were 20.5 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 9.78 suicides per 100,000 people.
Japan has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.
Of the 26,063 recorded suicide cases in 2013, 18,158 were men suicides and 7,905 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 29.3 per 100,000 men and for women 12.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
Statistics show that in 2014, suicides were the main cause of unnatural death in the world. In Japan suicide also is one of the leading causes of unnatural death. By comparison, there were 370 homicides in Japan, the number of suicides far outnumber homicides. For every homicide there were 70.4 suicides.
