Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 1974 around 19,105 suicides occurred in Japan, 246 more than in 1973. In 1974, on average 52 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan reported 17.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 12.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 19,105 recorded suicide cases in 1974, 10,723 were men suicides and 8,382 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 19.7 per 100,000 men and for women 14.9 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
