Of the 16,239 recorded suicide cases in 1971, 9,157 were men suicides and 7,082 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.6 per 100,000 men and for women 13.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
