Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 1970 around 15,728 suicides occurred in Japan, 884 more than in 1969. In 1970, on average 43 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan reported 15 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 11.8 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 15,728 recorded suicide cases in 1970, 8,761 were men suicides and 6,967 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 17.1 per 100,000 men and for women 13.1 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
