Japan has a very high suicide rate

In 1968 around 14,601 suicides occurred in Japan, 480 more than in 1967. In 1968, on average 40 Japanese committed suicide every day.

Japan reported 14.3 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, above the world average of 11.66 suicides per 100,000 people.

Japan, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 14,601 recorded suicide cases in 1968, 8,174 were men suicides and 6,427 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 16.3 per 100,000 men and for women 12.3 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
