In 1971 around 81 suicides occurred in Ireland, 29 more than in 1970.

Ireland reported 2.7 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, much less than the average suicide in the world, of 11.63 self-harm per 100.000 people.

Ireland has a low suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 81 recorded suicide cases in 1971, 59 were men suicides and 22 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 3.9 per 100,000 men and for women 1.5 per 100,000 female.
