CO2 emissions South Africa 2017

In South Africa, CO2 emissions during 2017 have grown 9.602 megatons, 2.09% compared to 2016.

CO2 emissions in 2017 were 468.965 megatons, making South Africa is among the countries that pollute the most in the ranking of countries for CO2 emissions, made up of 184 countries, in which the countries are ranked from least to most pollutant.

In addition to its total emissions of CO2 into the atmospher, which logically depend, among other variables, on the country's population, it is convenient to analyze the behavior of its emissions per inhabitant. In the table we see that per capita CO2 emissions in South Africa, have increased in 2017, in which they have been 8.27 tons per inhabitant.

Finally, it is interesting to observe the behavior f CO2 emissions per 1000 dollars of GDP, which measures, for the same country, the "environmental efficiency" with which it is produced over time. In the last period, South Africa, has emitted 0.59 kilos for every $ 1,000 of GDP, the same as in 2016. South Africa is one of the least efficient countries in environmental terms, as it is among the countries that send the most CO2 into the atmosphere for every $ 1,000 of GDP.

In the table we can see the evolution of CO2 emissions, which have grown since 2007, while per capita emissions have decreased and, on the contrary, CO2 emissions per $ 1,000 of GDP.

Total carbon dioxide emissions have also increased in the last five years, although in this period at least per capita emissions have been reduced.
