Birth rate

The birth rate is defined as the number of births registered per thousand inhabitants in a given time, usually one year.

Birth rates are usually high in third world countries, and not so high in developed countries, just as poorer families generally have more children than wealthier families.

The formula for calculating the birth rate is:

Br = (n/p) * 1000

Where:

Br= Birth rate

n= Number of births occurring in a year

p= Total population

Although the birth rate is a very useful indicator and very easy to calculate, it is not the most recommendable data for making comparisons between countries since it does not take into account either the age or the structure of the population in terms of gender, so it is usually preferable to use the fertility rate to make comparisons.

When there is a low birth rate, the average age of the population grows and its representation takes the form of a regressive or bulb pyramid, typical of developed countries with an aging population.
