In 1974 occurred 1,309 suicides in Switzerland. This year, 118 more people committed suicide than in 1973. In 1974, on average 4 Swiss committed suicide every day.

Switzerland had 20.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 12.42 suicides per 100,000 people.

Switzerland has a very high suicide rate compared to other countries.

Of the 1,309 recorded suicide cases in 1974, 903 were men suicides and 406 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 29.2 per 100,000 men and for women 12.5 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
