In 1972 around 1,226 suicides occurred in Switzerland, 66 more than in 1971. In 1972, on average 3 Swiss committed suicide every day.

Switzerland reported 19.6 suicides per 100,000 inhabitants, well above the world average of 11.98 suicides per 100,000 people.

Switzerland, has a relatively low rate of suicide per inhabitants.

Of the 1,226 recorded suicide cases in 1972, 867 were men suicides and 359 were women. So that, the suicide rate among males were 28.4 per 100,000 men and for women 11.2 per 100,000 female. In spite of this, it is one of the countries with the highest female suicide rate in the world.
